The Marketing Director will be the architect and executor of our new store concept marketing strategy, responsible for translating our creative vision into measurable results. This role is responsible for developing integrated marketing plans that drive customer acquisition, retention, and brand awareness in a startup environment. This includes optimizing all marketing channels (e-commerce, social media, email, in-store signage, events, loyalty program, etc.) to meet sales and engagement targets. The Marketing Director will work closely with Head of Creative and the Chief Creative and Marketing Officer to ensure creative direction and ensure brand consistency, with a primary focus on performance marketing and growth.
This role will manage a budget with an eye toward ROI, leveraging test-and-learn experimentation to refine campaigns and allocate spend effectively. Collaboration is key, Marketing Director will partner with Merchandising on product promotions, Operations on in-store experiences, and Finance on budgeting and KPIs. The ideal candidate brings a startup mindset (agility, innovation, comfort with lean resources) and a strong foundation in retail marketing (omni-channel campaign execution, loyalty/rewards, community outreach).
Job Responsibilities:
- Omni-Channel Campaigns: Develop and execute marketing across digital, social, email, and in-store to drive acquisition, traffic, and sales with cohesive messaging
- Promotions & Storytelling: Coordinate campaigns and promotional calendars and product storytelling to bring the curated, project-oriented brand to life across all channels
- Customer Retention & Loyalty: Own strategies to increase lifetime value, including a Pro & DIY loyalty program with rewards, events, and targeted offers
- Data-Driven Refinement: Continuously refine loyalty initiatives and customer communications using insights to improve retention and repeat engagement
- Partnerships & Community: Lead partnership marketing and community outreach through vendor co-marketing, local trade partnerships, and workshops
- Budget & Performance: Manage the marketing budget and track KPIs (CAC, conversion, ROI), optimizing spend with test-and-learn approaches (A/B tests, pilots)
- Marketing Operations: Drive day-to-day execution, ensuring campaigns, content, and in-store promotions launch on time and align with the marketing calendar
- Creative Production: Oversee workflows with creative partners to deliver digital ads, email, signage, and video with high brand consistency and impact
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Merchandising, Store Ops, E-commerce, IT, Finance, and Leadership to align marketing with business goals
- Marketing Technology: Implement CRM, loyalty platforms, and dashboards to enable data-driven decision making and campaign optimization
- Analytics & Insights: Analyze customer data, market trends, and campaign results to refine targeting, creative, and channel mix while fostering experimentation
- Compliance & Brand Integrity: Uphold data privacy and brand guidelines across initiatives; act as brand steward and customer advocate internally.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strategic Marketing Leadership: Proven ability to design and execute integrated marketing strategies across digital and traditional channels that deliver growth results; understands how to balance brand-building with performance marketing in a retail context
- Data-Driven & Analytical: Strong analytical skills with experience using marketing analytics, CRM databases, and ROI tracking tools to guide decision-making; adept at defining and tracking key metrics (CAC, LTV, retention rates, etc.) and translating data into actionable insights and optimizations
- Loyalty and Customer Lifecycle Management: Knowledge of customer loyalty programs, CRM, and personalization tactics in a retail or consumer business; ability to craft engaging loyalty/rewards programs and customer journeys that increase customer lifetime value and satisfaction
- Project Management & Execution: Excellent project management and organizational skills to juggle multiple campaigns, product launches, and events in a fast-paced environment; detail-oriented and deadline-driven, with a hands-on approach to ensuring marketing initiatives are delivered on time and on budget
- Team Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated success in building and leading teams, with the communication skills to inspire and guide both direct reports and cross-functional partners; able to influence and collaborate with peers in Creative, Merchandising, Operations, and Executive teams to drive unified business outcomes

- Customer-Centric & Brand Savvy: Deep empathy for the home improvement customer (from first-time DIYers to seasoned Pros) and the ability to champion the customer's voice in marketing strategy; skilled in crafting brand messaging that resonates with target segments and differentiates our concept (e.g., emphasizing our curated product selection, design-forward approach, and community focus)
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with digital marketing and CRM tools (e.g., Google Analytics, SEO/SEM platforms, email marketing software, loyalty program systems, social media management tools); solid understanding of e-commerce and retail metrics; familiarity with creative design tools or content management is a plus
Education and Certificates:
- Experience Requirement: 8-10+ years of progressive marketing experience, including leadership roles managing teams, budgets, and omni-channel campaigns; retail sector experience strongly preferred, ideally in omni-channel or specialty retail; startup or high-growth exposure is a plus
- Foundational Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field (required)
- Advanced Preparation: MBA or relevant master's degree preferred, particularly with a concentration in marketing, strategy, or business leadership
- Professional Development: Certifications such as AMA Professional Certified Marketer, Google Analytics Certification, SEO/SEM credentials, or other digital marketing tools are considered valuable differentiators
- Commitment to Learning: Demonstrated history of staying current with evolving marketing practices through executive education, industry associations (e.g., AMA, NRF), or ongoing training in emerging marketing technologies
Physical Requirements:
