Position Summary
The Chief Development Officer designs, plans, directs, and implements a comprehensive multi-year development strategy and fundraising program including annual giving, corporate giving, planned giving, major gifts, business development, and grant management. Develops programs designed to support and augment the long and short term plans of the LRH Foundation. Works closely with the LRH Executive Leadership Council and in coordination with the Foundation Board and assists in establishing goals and objectives for philanthropic strategies that are in constant alignment with the organization.

Standard Work Duties: Vice President & Chief Development Officer
- As a key partner to the Chief Executive Officer and the Foundation Board of Directors, the Chief Development Officer leads the Foundation Office, guides and engages the Board of Directors, leads and manages the fundraising team, develops and implements a strategic plan with measurements to impact fundraising on all levels, creates the right organizational structure to support philanthropy, focuses the Foundation on support of key organizational priorities and initiatives, and serves as a known and trusted member of the communities served.
- Ensures that the strategic plan for the Foundation includes objectives for major gift solicitations, fundraising, annual appeals, employee campaigns, planned giving, capital campaigns, donor recognition and grant proposals.
- Serves as the chief fundraiser, securing major gifts and personally managing a portfolio of major and planned giving donor prospects across the region. Helps to identify, cultivate and steward major donors and new prospects, for the purpose of maximizing commitments over a lifetime of giving.
- Serves as a brand ambassador for the Health System, helping to drive great confidence to various stakeholders in the philanthropic community, with a compelling case for support. Promotes a culture of philanthropy within the community of grateful patients and families, donors, staff members, and friends, and conveys to them the critical role private philanthropic support has to the growth and sustainability of the programs that comprise the medical center.
- Educates others about development and serves as a resource on development to senior administration, medical staff, department managers, Foundation Board members, and community members.
- Assists the Foundation Board in developing future board membership and committees. Assists in directing the agenda for board and committee meetings; prepares and presents an updated development report and attends all board and committee meetings; delegates staff resources as appropriate.
- Provides staff leadership and direction to Foundation team, volunteers, and Board committees responsible for fundraising cultivation and solicitation of prospects. Creates a high performing development team, and communicates the mission and vision of the Foundation and the organization. Embraces and develops the diversity of talent and capabilities.
- Participates as a key member of the Executive Leadership Council and ensures that Foundation fundraising activities are developed in line with the strategic goals of the organization.
